Gamecrush: Online escort service or just another dating site?

kek | April 3, 2010

So I probably should’ve seen this coming.  Actually, I am disappointed in myself for not creating something like this by now.  Gamecrush.com sets up online game dates” to play with girls.  Guys are Players, and girls are Playdates.  Players pay to play with Playdates, and the fee is $6.60 for 10 minutes.  Pretty expensive to chat up with a girl you may or may not like for 10 minutes.

Truthfully, it does play up the stereotype that guys just want to play with hot women, and women enjoy being a tease.  I’m sure many people would comment that this is sad that this will be an outlet for video gaming guys to pick up girls.

Unfortunately for all of us, this will make a lot of money.  It is a pretty good business model because there are incentives for all parties.  Registration is free.  The site serves as a portal helping players set up their dates on their consoles or PC and will take 60% of the fee.  Girls have the potential to make a sizeable sum.  It is likely that most Playdates are still in college and in need of the cash.  Why not play video games in the comfort of home and have the potential to make at least $36 per hour.  In fact, the most popular girls could probably command higher rates.  Let’s face it, there will be plenty of guys who will want to pay for the privilege to play COD4:2 with a hot girl.

On the other hand, this could be a good way for guys who spend endless hours playing games to have some social interaction.  After those horror stories about people having no social interaction except virtually in World of Warcraft, this could be a good channel for some healthy social interaction.  It is quite possible that these video gaming guys or gals lack the confidence to approach a good-looking person of the opposite sex in real life.  Gamecrush could serve as a platform for individuals to “innocently” approach strangers without risking public humiliation.

It seems like the website has shut down due to overwhelming demand.  When the site goes live, I would be curious to check out the features and the interactions among members.  Nonetheless, this concept also has the potential to be a little sleazy.
