First thoughts on Uncharted 2

kek | October 27, 2009

I finally decided to jump on the bandwagon and see what the hype behind Uncharted 2 is all about.  As my former roommate left her PS3 in Chicago to pick up the next time she visits, I decide to revisit the PS3 and run the huge black beast through its paces.

Netflix coming to PS3 and eventually to Wii

kek |

Netflix and Sony are finally announcing Netflix movie streaming to the PS3 console.  As access to PSN is free, there is no additional cost for Netflix members to stream their content to their lovely HDTVs (or standard definition TVs if you still have one lying around).  It will be available starting November, but it requires a disc install rather than a download which seems downright silly to me.  It seems like there are plans to bring the same service to the Wii as well.

It looks like this generation’s consoles will be taking over as the center of media entertainment.  Who needs Blu-ray and DVD players if you have an Xbox 360 or PS3? You can even build your own DVR and manage your content with Windows Media Center. With all the social networking features like Facebook and Twitter coming to the consoles, the TV will remain king of family entertainment

What am I playing this weekend?

kek | October 23, 2009

This is the first weekend that I almost have nothing planned (besides meeting up with friends).  As I will be in New York City next weekend for Halloween, I suppose this will be the weekend that I will hopefully finish a game or two before I start opening new ones (*cough*Uncharted 2*cough*).

Here is the list (in no particular order):

1) Get alternate ending sequences in Muramasa: Demon Blade

2) Finish Halo: ODST on Legenedary with some friends

3) Finish Lost Odyssey (I’m on Disc 4, and I still can’t bring myself to finish it.  My former roommate can attest to that.)

4) Finish Fallout 3 (Hell… maybe I should just buy the GOTY edition and trade in my old version.  The extra DLC may be worth it.)

5) Random PSP RPG games (I have too many to note here.  Just like Point #3, I’m literally like 2 dungeons/places away from the end.)

Maybe after I finish these games, I could actually trade them in to buy the games I want in the coming weeks (e.g. Dragon Age and COD:MW2).

Turbo: This 20 Minute Movie Beats All Those Movies Based on Fighter Games

kek | October 8, 2009

Turbo was  20-minute movie shot for a thesis.  Despite the tight $100k budget, the special effects and choreography were especially well done.  In fact, it’s a lot better than Hollywood’s Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat movies.  Then again, those movies are eons years old and Bison’s electricity effects probably cost a fortune.

The movie is now posted on Vimeo.  Enjoy!

OMG! Konami is bringing Rocket Knight back

kek | October 5, 2009

I still remember playing Rocket Knight Adventures on my old-school Sega Genesis system.  After countless tries and double-digit number of lives, I still could not beat that game to this day.  Now Konami is finally bringing back Sparkster after a 15-year absence via XBLA, Steam, or PSN.  It is not a remake but an actual sequel.  It is still a side-scrolling platformer, but the graphics will be in between 2D and 3D. It seems like the game will just be as hard as before to the hard-core gamers delight, but there is an option to save as you go for the modern gamer.  This is a relief because I don’t want to redo an entire level just because I died at the boss fight. (Remembering very harsh memories….)
